One of the most beautiful parts of belonging to a faith community is being able pray with and for each other.  We want every parishioner to be able to reach out when they need our prayers for themselves or a loved one. There are a number of ways that we join together in prayer, and they are described here. If you are asking for prayers, please select any or all of the options and submit your request.

Prayer of the Faithful

This is also called the Universal Prayer, or Prayer of General Intercession, and is read by the lector during Mass after the Creed. In addition to praying for the Church, public authorities and the world, those in need, the local community, and the recently deceased, we also pray for loved ones whose names have been submitted to us. Parishioners can submit the names of loved ones who are sick or have recently died. We have a three-part approach to these prayers:

  1. When a prayer request is first submitted, the person’s name is read aloud at each weekend Mass for three weekends.

  2. If the individual still needs prayers, we will continue to pray for them by name for the next three weeks at a special prayer service following the 4:45pm Mass on Saturdays.

  3. If the prayer need is longer term, we will then add the person to the Book of Intentions. It is a place to list any intention that you want to ask the parish to pray for. We specifically pray for everything written in this book at every Mass. The book is located in the Gathering Space next to the Hospitality Room.

Trees of Remembrance

Each year during the month of November we have a special display at the back of the church around the baptismal font. Several decorative trees are assembled, and on those trees we place

  • tags with the names of parishioner’s loved ones who have died in the past 12 months

  • tags with the names of deceased children and grandchildren of parishioners.

On All Souls’ Day we have a special Mass of Remembrance where those names are sung aloud. Any loved one submitted to our necrology who has died since November of last year, plus any child or grandchild who has died regardless of when, will be remembered with a tag on the tree.

Mass Intentions

We as Catholics believe that the Mass is the highest and most powerful form of prayer because it makes present the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. When you have a Mass said for someone, you are asking God to apply the special graces of that sacrifice to that specific individual.
Masses can be requested for:

The Deceased: Most commonly, a Mass is offered "for the repose of the soul" of someone who has died. This helps purify their souls and aids them on their journey toward heaven.

The Living: You can request a Mass for someone who is sick or suffering (for physical or spiritual healing), celebrating a birthday, wedding anniversary, graduation, or going through a difficult time.

Thanksgiving: A Mass can also be offered simply to thank God for blessings or answered prayers.

Necrology

The necrology is a list of deceased loved ones, their date of death and the name and relationship of the family member who submitted the name. It is used to pray for them at Mass on the anniversary of death. Each parishioner may have a total of six names on the list (yes, a couple gets six each).
